Giovanni Stroppa hopes ‘the slaps in the face we received today can help wake us up’ after Crotone’s 4-1 defeat to Genoa.
The newly-promoted side were comfortably beaten at Marassi, going 3-1 down in the first half already.
“I don’t think my team, aside from individual incidents, was too soft in its initial approach to the game,” Stroppa said in his press conference.
“We had an early chance, but were unable to make the most of it, and it was an uphill struggle after Genoa scored, yet we kept creating opportunities.
“As our fitness levels and intensity dropped, it was difficult to fight back mentally too. Without doubt, we have to improve on the situations that saw us concede the goals, as our defending was naïve.
“The club knows what we need and this result won’t change our intentions on the transfer market, as we already knew the issues. I think our fitness levels are above all the problem, caused by a lack of pre-season friendlies.
“There were some flashes of what we can do, but it’s not enough. I hope the slaps in the face we received today can help wake us up.”
