Asian Champions League winners Al Hilal caused controversy after playing a game against Shahr Khodro despite having 15 players test positive for COVID-19, including Sebastian Giovinco.
The Saudi club complained it had asked the Asian Football Confederation to postpone Sunday’s match, but were told it was not possible, as they still had 14 players available.
Giovinco is one of those who has tested positive for COVID-19 and he did not play in the 0-0 draw, which had Al Hilal mostly field reserves.
According to club manager Saud Kariri, the coronavirus outbreak spread within the squad and staff after a September 7 party to mark their Saudi League title victory.
Al Hilal confirm 15 players, plus six members of the staff, have all contracted COVID.
