While the Lega Serie A are pushing to expand the number of fans allowed into stadiums, Cremonese close theirs after the 1,000 allowed entry didn’t follow COVID rules.

As of this month, Italian arenas are allowed to welcome in up to 1,000 people per game.

Clubs and the Lega Serie A are confident that figure will soon be bumped up to 25 per cent capacity, although the Government and CTS (technical scientific committee) are still pouring cold water over the idea.

Cremonese have shown precisely why the situation is still in flux, as their opening Serie B game against Cittadella had 1,000 spectators, not all of whom followed the strict protocol.

As some of these fans did not wear their masks for the entire event or stay in their assigned seats, Cremonese released a statement confirming they chose to play the Coppa Italia tie with Arezzo on September 30 behind closed doors.

“This is so that we can organise the next Serie B game in minute detail, so we can ensure the health of the community and protect US Cremonese from liability.”
