Valerio Verre lobbed in the winner off the bench as Sampdoria picked up their first points in a 2-1 win against Fiorentina on Friday.
Five minutes before full time, Federico Ceccherini pulled down Fabio Quagliarella in the box and the veteran made no mistakes from the penalty spot and gave Sampdoria the lead at half-time.
In the second half, both sides came close in a game lacking intensity, but it was Dusan Vlahovic who found the back of the net. Nikola Milenkovic’s attempt was deflected and found its way to the Serbian’s feet six yards from the line.
After 83 minutes, a long ball over the top found the former Hellas Verona Verre, who did everything right, a perfect touch and a naughty chip sent the Blucerchiati home with three points.
