Massara takes care of transfer negotiations with Paolo Maldini, so was naturally asked about the interest in Chelsea defender Rudiger.

“We’ll see, there isn’t long until the transfer deadline and if we have the opportunity to improve the squad at acceptable terms, we won’t hold back,” the director told Sky Sport Italia.

When he spoke to the same channel last week, Massara had told them there was no move for Jens Hauge, only to then make the deal hours later.

“I will admit that I said we wouldn’t sign Hauge, but Ante Rebic got injured during the game, so that made us change our mind and we accelerated that operation.”

The Milan chief was asked about an approach for Schalke 04 defender Ozan Kabak.

“We are evaluating if there are plausible terms available, he’s not the only one, but with so little time remaining, I am not convinced we will make any more signings.”

There was one new arrival in defence, specifically Diogo Dalot on loan from Manchester United, who signed today.

“We are happy, he is a quality player and will be able to give his contribution to the team.”
