Adam Ounas admits he struggled to settle at Napoli and in the ‘more tactical’ Serie A, but now feels ready to make his mark at Cagliari.
He completed a deadline day move on loan with option to buy for €16m, as Napoli had also loaned him to Nice last season.
“There were other offers last year, but I preferred Nice so that I’d be better prepared for when I returned to Italy,” said the Algeria international in his press conference.
“I came here from Ligue 1, which as a league is much less tactical than Serie A. I’ve learned a lot and I feel stronger now. I’m the kind of player who likes to take opponents on, provide assists and score goals, even if the fundamental thing is to help the team.
“My idol growing up was Cristiano Ronaldo, but I’ve grown and become a player in my own right, so don’t try to emulate anyone now.”
Ounas was brought in to suit Cagliari coach Eusebio Di Francesco’s 4-3-3 formation.
“I spoke to the coach, he knows my preferred position is on the right, but I can play as a trequartista too. The important thing is to play for the team.”
