Lukaku: 'I hate losing, just like Conte'

Inter forward Romelu Lukaku says he will ‘definitely return’ to Anderlecht one day and believes he ‘hates losing’ as much as coach Antonio Conte.

The Belgian moved from Anderlecht to England in August 2011 and played for Chelsea, West Bromwich, Everton and Manchester United, before he joined Inter in August 2019.

“I always follow Anderlecht,” Lukaku told VTM. “I will definitely return. The attraction for a player that wat there as a youngster is too big.

“Ask guys like Leander Dendoncker, Youri Tielemans. They are still involved with the club too because we had so many good moments there.”

The 27-year-old, who has scored 37 goals in 54 competitive games with Inter, says he feels ‘similar’ to coach Antonio Conte and enjoys life in Milan.

“Italy suits my lifestyle. If I had known before, I would have moved here first,” he added.

“At Inter we play with two forwards. When I play on his [Conte] side, he makes himself heard, but me and the coach get along well.

“We are more or less similar. I too, like him, hate losing.”

The Belgium international refused to accept the runners-up medal in the Europa League, after a cruel own goal handed Sevilla a 3-2 win in the Final last term.

“I couldn’t, it was too much for me. I have always had those moments when I simply have to say no,” Lukaku admitted. “Super Cups, Scudetto lost by one point, semi-final of the World Cup with Belgium.

“It was all terrible for me. I though, sod this. I had given so much for that target, then I didn’t get it. It took me four or five days to get over it.”

Lukaku said former France hero Thierry Henry, who was the former assistant at Belgium, is his mentor.

“I often speak with Thierry Henry,” he revealed. “Very often. He’s actually my mentor.

“He gave me the impetus to be compared with other strikers in Europe.”
