Arrigo Sacchi claims he told Maurizio Sarri that taking the Juventus job was ‘suicide’, while Atalanta winning the Scudetto would be a ‘miracle.’
The former Milan and Italy coach spoke at the Festival dello Sport event about the current state of Italian football and the fact Juve fired Sarri despite taking the Serie A title.
“I told him straight away that this was suicide, because there was no way those players could be suited to his style of football,” said Sacchi.
“He was also unlucky to get pneumonia in pre-season, which further limited his ability to really get his tactics honed during those intensive training weeks.”
Atalanta and Milan are currently top of the table with a perfect record after three rounds.
“I told Gian Piero Gasperini that he has only two things against him: the Champions League commitments that will make him lose points and potential arrogance.
“Atalanta have to keep going as they have done so far. Winning the Scudetto in Bergamo would be a miracle, even with everything he has already done.”
