There is good news from the Italy camp, as Stephan El Shaarawy is confirmed ‘false positive’ for COVID-19 and can therefore play tomorrow.

The situation had been already suggested by Italy’s chief medic Professor Andrea Ferretti in a press conference this afternoon.

“He had a positive swab, with a low viral load, which suggests he could be a false positive.”

A blood test came up negative, while this evening he took a second swab and that was negative.

The whole squad and staff were tested again as per protocol and all those came back negative.

In order to be officially diagnosed with COVID-19, you must have two positive tests in quick succession.

El Shaarawy is therefore available for tomorrow’s Nations League match against the Netherlands, to be played in Bergamo.
