Jorginho identified the tactical changes that allowed the Netherlands to neutralise Italy. ‘They pressed at the right time.’

The Azzurri were held to a 1-1 draw in Bergamo, a far cry from the dominant performance in Amsterdam last month.

“It’s natural to be disappointed when we don’t win, as we give our all to get the victory and it’s tiring, but you cannot win them all,” Jorginho told RAI Sport.

“I think we put in a good performance and people were entertained seeing two teams that play good football. We had our chances, so did they, and we proved that we have a very clear identity that we believe in and will continue to pursue.”

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho was asked what made the big difference from the game a month ago?

“I think it was a tactical issue, as they defended with five at the back this evening. In Amsterdam, they had four at the back, we always had five to pass around them and create the spaces.

“This time, they pressed us at the right time and did very well tactically to limit us. We found a way through that press after a while and they could no longer neutralise us, as we figured out what we had to do.”

Now the Azzurri have a head-to-head with Poland for the top spot in their Nations League group.

“We want to win and I am sure we’ll deserve it for all we’re giving for this Nazionale.”
