Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini said Diego Godin’s move to Sardinia could be ‘the most important signing in the club’s history’.

The Uruguayan defender moved from Inter to the Casteddu after only one season at San Siro and Giulini is proud to have the centre-back in his ranks at the Sardegna Arena.

The Nerazzurri midfielder Radja Nainggolan seemed set for a return to the Rossoblu as well, but the negotiations fell through on transfer deadline day.

The Nerazzurri midfielder Radja Nainggolan seemed set for a return to the Rossoblu as well, but the negotiations fell through on transfer deadline day.

“From the fan’s point of view, I have a huge regret,” Giulini told Tuttosport. “At a certain point last year, Cagliari proved to be a great team with Radja Nainggolan on the pitch.

“From a club’s point of view, given the economic problems in football, I say that in the end I’m happy the negotiations didn’t go through, given the costs.

“I’m sorry that this negotiation of the last few days, last minute, has overshadowed the person which I believe is one of the most important signings in the history of Cagliari: Godin.

“Godin is a great player of high quality. He’s a leader with a lot of experience and several triumphs behind him.”
