Buffon to mark 650th Serie A game

Gigi Buffon is expected to start for Juventus this evening, marking his 24th professional season and 650th Serie A appearance.

Wojciech Szczesny is likely to be rested after international duty, giving Buffon the gloves for the first time in 2020-21.

Since making his debut for Parma against Milan on November 19, 1995, SuperGigi has gone on to play 649 games in the Italian top flight.

He will today reach 650, moving three clear of previous record holder Paolo Maldini.

It is also due to be his 24th season as a professional football player, having also worked in Serie B with Juventus in 2006-07 and Ligue 1 with PSG in 2018-19.

The 42-year-old has kept 296 clean sheets in his 649 Serie A games so far.

In all club competition, Buffon now has 916 matches under his belt, not to mention a record 176 senior caps for Italy and numerous appearances for his country at youth level too.
