Stroppa: 'Crotone regrets at draw'

Giovanni Stroppa was left feeling ‘regret’ after Crotone’s 1-1 draw with 10-man Juventus. ‘After their disallowed goal, we got a little scared.’

The Squali picked up their first point of the season and it could’ve been more, as Simy’s penalty was cancelled out by an Alvaro Morata tap-in.

“Serie A is another sport compared to Serie B. We’ve conceded a few goals with naïve errors, but I still believe we are on the right track,” the coach told DAZN.

“It seems odd to say we feel regret after a 1-1 draw with Juventus, but we did have the chances to take all three points.”

The Bianconeri were down to 10 men for the final half-hour after Federico Chiesa’s harsh straight red card for a tackle on Luca Cigarini.

“I don’t know if we got a little scared after the disallowed goal, as we clammed up a little and weren’t taking as many risks. We could’ve made more of the extra man and been sharper in the final third, taking them on one-on-one, but we still did well with 11 against 11 and 11 against 10.

“This is not the best Juve team, but we saw they still had remarkable talents to come off the bench and bring new elements to the side, so we can be proud of this result.

“Crotone earned promotion with certain ideas of football and we tried to maintain them. It was difficult to create a team with the transfer window still open, but this point against the champions can certainly boost confidence.”

Junior Messias impressed again and was voted Man of the Match, but Stroppa warned he’s not quite reaching his full potential.

“He has this enormous, stratospheric quality, but he always stops just short of greatness, either getting the first touch wrong or firing off target. He’s so nearly there.”
