Simone Inzaghi said Borussia Dortmund are ‘one of the eight best teams in Europe’ ahead of Lazio’s return to the Champions League on Tuesday.
Lazio are back in the Champions League after 13 years and Inzaghi’s men open with a match against Borussia Dortmund.
“We would have liked to start the season in the Champions League with the fans in the stands,” Inzaghi said at a press conference.
“We know how long they have waited for this day and we want to play a great game for them.
“We come from the worst performance in recent years [a 3-0 defeat to Sampdoria], tomorrow we must play differently. With courage and aggression.
“For me it’s emotional, after many appearances in the Europa League.”
And Inzaghi expects a tough game against Borussia Dortmund and stressed the Biancocelesti need a ‘great match’ to get away with the points.
“They are one of the best eight teams in Europe. They are tried and tested and have players of great quality,” Inzaghi added. “It will be a tough debut.
“We know we must play a great match.”
The Aquile coach said he will use today and tomorrow to prepare the last details and couldn’t confirm the line-up.
“We still have today’s training, then tomorrow morning we will make slight adjustments,” he said. “We have some problems at a numerical level.
“I will have to evaluate Luiz Felipe, as he only had one group training after the injury. I found him well yesterday.
“If I had more choices, I would have given him more time. Tomorrow, I will choose between him, [Wesley] Hoedt and [Marco] Parolo.”
