Mircea Lucescu says Andrea Pirlo ‘must be smart’ when difficult moments arrive as his Dynamo Kiev side get ready to face Juventus in Champions League.

"Pirlo and I don’t play, the players go onto the pitch,” Lucescu, who was Pirlo’s first senior coach at Brescia, said in a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Dynamo Kiev-Juventus in Champions League.

“My players will put on the pitch what they have learned these days. Even for us it was difficult to deal with the International break, it was complicated to prepare the game in such a short time. We hope it’s a going to be a great match.

"I haven’t spoken with Pirlo these days.

“I spoke with him and with [Roberto] Baronio when they were appointed at Juventus. They are both my students.

“I complimented Pirlo, I told him that this path will be very complicated and that he will have to be very smart in overcoming difficult moments.

“He is learning every day, he can also rely on the help of the club. The President and the Director of football are also young and will help him.

“Then he has a great team, an important club that has won nine Serie A titles in a row, which is tremendous.”
