COVID at AZ ahead of Napoli trip

AZ Alkmaar have announced ‘a number of new’ cases of COVID-19 ahead of their meeting with Napoli in the Europa League.

Napoli, coming from a couple of busy weeks relating to a new coronavirus outbreak culminating in a 3-0 defeat by default to Juventus in Serie A, were back in action with an impressive 4-1 win against Atalanta last weekend.

As Gennaro Gattuso’s men prepare to face AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday, the Dutch visitors have announced concerning news ahead of the first group stage match of the 2020-21 season.

“A number of new corona infections were detected with the group of players at AZ on Tuesday,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

“An inventory is currently being made of the extend of the infections. AZ is in close consultation with the KNVB, GGD and UEFA.”
