Empoli have announced ‘some cases’ of COVID-19 in the team group ahead of the Coppa Italia match against Benevento.

The Streghe host Empoli at the Ciro Vigorito tomorrow but the opponents from Serie B announced worrying news ahead of the match against the newly promoted Serie A side.

“Empoli FC announce that, following the cycle of swabs carried out on the team group yesterday, some cases of COVID-19 have been found,” the club wrote in a statement.

The teams are required to go through the swab tests 48 hours ahead of matches and Empoli have isolated the people in question, who they confirm were asymptomatic.

The club has cancelled tomorrow’s training ‘in compliance with the regulations and protocol’.

Empoli have picked up 13 points from their first five League games and sit first in Serie B.
