Milan director Ricky Massara discusses squad rotation for Sparta Prague, Europa League objectives and Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract.
It kicks off at 17.55 GMT, click here for the line-ups and LIVEBLOG.
“There is some squad rotation and having fresh legs in a competition we care about is important,” Massara told Sky Sport Italia.
“Sparta are top of their domestic league with maximum points, so we need the best available Milan for this game.”
Donnarumma is out of action because he was diagnosed with COVID-19, but negotiations for his contract extension continue regardless.
“We are discussing the contract with his agent and with him, it’s a calm situation and we hope it will reach a positive conclusion. We would like to extend his contract without stress or haste, but aware that it is our objective.”
Massara was also asked about the transfer strategy for January, including the pursuit of a centre-back, and how Sandro Tonali is settling in.
“We had been looking at a centre-back during the closing stages of the summer transfer window. We’ll see the situation in January, as we hope to have Mattia Gabbia and Leo Duarte back by then. If we are in difficulty and there are opportunities, then we will try to take them.
“We are very confident that Tonali will express his quality at Milan and show all of his strength here. Naturally, he joined a team that was already well-drilled and hadn’t played for a while, so he needs time to settle.”
Milan are unbeaten in 22 competitive games now and the more that run progresses, the more self-belief they seem to have.
“Self-confidence also comes with results and being able to beat the clubs that are ahead of us. We want to keep surprising, find consistency and set ourselves no limits.”
