The coach announced at the start of this press conference that while Daniele Padelli is positive for COVID-19, Roberto Gagliardini and Ionut Radu require further tests, as their results were ‘inconclusive.’

“This is the seventh game in 20 days, so there’s fatigue, but also the desire to put in a good performance. We need to figure out who is in the best shape,” said Conte.

“Lukaku trained with us, so he will very probably be called up. Our mood after the Real Madrid game is what it ought to be.”

The Belgian missed both the 2-2 draw with Parma and defeat to Real Madrid due to muscular problems.

The Nerazzurri fought their way back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in Madrid, only to then lose 3-2 and drop to the foot of their Champions League group.

“Facing Atalanta is not easy, as they have a great coach who gave the side credibility. They constantly press whoever is on the ball and are very good attacking, so we need a great performance.

“We’re nearly there, we are very close to that step up in quality. We have to work even harder to cancel out that tiny gap, but it means we’re not there yet.

“We have to go through our process. If we deserve it, we should win and our position in the table will improve, otherwise it’s only right that we are lower down the table.”
