Lorenzo Insigne praised Italy’s ‘mentality’ after a 2-0 win in Bosnia-Herzegovina to reach the Nations League Final Four. ‘This is a jersey to be honoured.’
The Napoli star was Man of the Match, despite not finding the net, as he provided an assist and his magnificent first touch and curler hit the upright.
“We knew this was a difficult match, as we had many problems, but did well to approach it fired up. It wasn’t just a great performance technically and tactically, but also in terms of mentality,” Insigne told RAI Sport.
“The coach wants us to play our football wherever we go and that is the mentality we’ve really embraced. This is a jersey to be honoured every time and we give our all for Italy.”
Insigne’s performances for Napoli are also improving, so how much has Gennaro Gattuso contributed to his development?
“Gattuso is giving me a great deal, physically and tactically, and coming here with the Nazionale, Mancini and Evani get the best out of us. We’re all working hard and want to lift the Italy shirt up high where it deserves to be.
“Everyone knows I haven’t had the best rapport with certain sections of the Napoli fans and media, but I feel more confident now, I feel more respected and can therefore give my best on the field.”
