Simone Inzaghi says Lazio deserve credit for ‘making it look easy’ after they beat Zenit 3-1 to put one foot in the Champions League Round of 16.

The Aquile are still unbeaten in Europe and sit just one point off group leaders Borussia Dortmund, four clear of Club Brugge.

“We did well to make it seem easy, but it really was not, as Zenit are accustomed to being in the Champions League,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have gone beyond the rosiest expectations with eight points from four games. We took two very important draws away from Bruges and St Petersburg despite missing numerous players, but we had to consolidate that with a win today.

“We’re getting players back from injury now and it was very important that we get the points this evening.”

There were 24 passes involving 10 players in the build-up to Immobile’s opening goal.

“These lads have tried to play good football for several years now and I think we did against Crotone on Saturday in impossible circumstances.”

Artem Dzyuba did manage to get Zenit back into it just moments after Marco Parolo had doubled Lazio’s lead.

“We could’ve done better shifting back on their initial long ball, we had prepared to close down on Dzyuba especially his head, so when we concede a goal, we need to analyse it.

“Lazio scored three goals tonight, could’ve scored six or seven, so objectively there are things we should do better on.”

Borussia Dortmund picked up a 3-0 victory away to Club Brugge this evening, but would’ve Inzaghi preferred they slip up?

“I had this idea that Dortmund might win, but calculating we’ve got the last game at home to Brugge, I would’ve preferred a different result.”

Lazio and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head on December 2.
