Cagliari have announced their star striker Giovanni Simeone tested positive for COVID ahead of today’s Coppa Italia clash against Hellas Verona.

The Rossoblu have already Diego Godin out of action due to Coronavirus which he is likely to have contracted while on international duty with Uruguay national team.

“Cagliari announce Giovanni Simeone has tested positive for Covid-19,” the Sardinians’ statement reads.

The Rossoblu have already Diego Godin out of action due to Coronavirus which he is likely to have contracted while on international duty with Uruguay national team.

“Cagliari announce Giovanni Simeone has tested positive for Covid-19,” the Sardinians’ statement reads.

“The player was immediately put into isolation according to the federal and ministerial rules. All the other components of the team have tested negative and will begin the fiduciary isolation.

“The team will still be able to train and play official games.

“The club, in contact with the competent health authorities, will continue to observe the provisions of the protocols.”

Simeone has five goals in eight Serie A appearances so far this season. The Rossoblu are due to face Hellas Verona in Coppa Italia today and will play against Spezia in Serie A next weekend.
