“It’s a fascinating encounter. Inter are and remain a great team, regardless of some recent results,” De Zerbi told Sky Sport Italia.

“Sassuolo are a smaller club and are trying to carve out our space in amongst the big boys. I don’t think the old hierarchy has been overturned as such, but we will do what we always do, which is play with courage.

“Sassuolo want to spend this day feeling like a big team.”

There are still injury problems for the Neroverdi, who are unbeaten in Serie A this season and currently sit in second place.

“Domenico Berardi is fine, we’ll have to see tomorrow if Filip Djuricic can start or not, as his training today wasn’t perfect. Ciccio Caputo, Gregoire Defrel, Lukas Haraslin and Federico Ricci are out.

“We want to do well, we need to be intelligent and maintain our identity in every game. What we have done is create a strong mentality.

“We’ve got to enjoy and respect football. Respect our history, which isn’t that long or glorious, but made of dignity and ambition.

“It’s important we play without fear of stumbling. If I say that I won’t settle for fourth place, it doesn’t mean I don’t like finishing fourth, it just means we should never settle for any objective ahead of time.”
