La Dea are currently seventh in the League and the win on Merseyside was their first since a 2-1 success against Crotone on October 31.

“It was a magical evening for us,” Gasperini told the club’s official website. “Winning on that pitch was undoubtedly a great satisfaction.

“An injection of confidence and energy. This must be brough to the championship and the next games.”

Atalanta host Hellas Verona in the League on Saturday and are within touching distance of the top four – two points behind Juventus at fourth.

Verona, on the other hand, could leapfrog the Orobici with a win at the Gewiss Stadium.

“The championship is balanced, and it will always be like this. We are talking about a complicated campaign with difficult matches and maybe some better ones.

“We have already taken note of this. We are not concerned about those who have different expectations.

“We have the Champions League in between and it will be like that. It’s not always easy to play like that.

“For us, it will be a different season from the others. But let’s be calm.”
