Simone Inzaghi warns Lazio ‘aren’t done yet’ and have to push past Borussia Dortmund to secure their Champions League Round of 16 ticket.

The Biancocelesti visit Dortmund on Wednesday at 20.00 GMT in a head-to-head for the top spot in this Champions League group.

“We know that we are close to an excellent achievement, but there are still two games to go and we aren’t done yet,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have a very important match tomorrow against, in my view, one of the best teams in Europe who have immense potential.”

Lazio started their European adventure with a bang this season, beating Borussia Dortmund at the Stadio Olimpico, and remained unbeaten despite numerous injury and COVID issues.

Borussia Dortmund have eight points, Lazio seven, and Club Brugge follow on four. Zenit have just one point.

“We started this Champions League campaign on the right foot and reaching the final 16 would be a huge achievement for us. It’s a pity that we lost on Sunday to Udinese in Serie A, because a defeat can happen, but not like that. We paid for our arrogance, analysed the match and have to immediately press the reset button.

“We worked so hard over the last four or five years to get back into the Champions League and now we want to play it to the best of our abilities.”

It’ll be an intriguing battle of the strikers between last year’s Golden Boot winner Ciro Immobile and possible future hitman Erling Braut Haaland.

“Immobile is so consistent, not just in the goals he scores, but also the contribution he brings to the team with his overall performances,” continued Inzaghi.

“Haaland is a great player, capable of finding the net in any game.”

It was a sad day for Lazio, as they announced the death of club spokesman Arturo Diaconale at the age of 75.

“He was a huge Lazio fan who I was fortunate to collaborate with over the last four years. He put such dedication into his work, we had met a few months ago at a dinner and I thought his condition was improving, but unfortunately life is unpredictable.”
