The Dane has played in every single game this season and limped off within 11 minutes of today’s 4-2 Europa League victory.

Considering he had already looked fatigued at the weekend, why was Kjaer not rested?

“Because Alessio Romagnoli had some problems recently,” replied the coach in his press conference.

“Talking to Alessio, it was preferable not to have him play three games in one week. Simon felt good, unfortunately these things can happen.

“Clearly, the risk of injury increases when you play every three days.”

Milan are short on options, as Mateo Musacchio and Leo Duarte are not fully fit either, leaving only Matteo Gabbia and Romagnoli.
