Patrick Cutrone’s agent confirms Fiorentina have removed the obligation to buy clause, as they feared the Wolves price-tag meant he ‘wasn’t given the same chances.’

The 22-year-old had joined Fiorentina in January 2020 on an 18-month loan for €3m with obligation to buy for a further €16m after 26 starts.

“The obligation to buy clause has been mentioned several times, so I decided to remove it,” agent Giovanni Branchini told TMW Radio.

“It is now a dry loan and has an option to buy that has already been fixed, but can be renegotiated. The loan is worth €3m, while the option to buy is €16m spread out over two years.”

Branchini hints Cutrone was increasingly left on the margins of the squad because Fiorentina feared having to purchase him for the full sum.

“The pre-COVID contract was agreed by all parties. Fiorentina told me that the various coaches have not been given any indications on how to use Cutrone, but I didn’t believe them and the numbers suggest it’s true. Cutrone has played on average 16 minutes per game.

“It seems strange to me that a team struggling to score goals can’t find room for Cutrone. The player is feeling downbeat, because you can’t pretend not to understand what’s going on.

“I am just sorry that Patrick hasn’t been given the same chances as others to show what he can do.”

The tipping point for the agent was a story the Viola are planning to bring in Krzysztof Piatek from Hertha Berlin in January.

“I find it laughable that the Viola safety is now linked with a player who yesterday scored only his seventh goal in Germany, of which one was a penalty. I think people need to be more balanced when judging players.”
