Inter failed to qualify for the last 16 stage of the Champions League after a 0-0 home draw against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday and Italian media pin the blame on Antonio Conte who is rated 5 by each one of the three Italian sports paper.

La Gazzetta dello Sport writes Conte “stuck to the tactical plan of the first-leg and obtained the same result”and “should have made substitutions earlier.”

Tuttosport highlights the Nerazzurri only won one of their six games in the group stage, “figures that prove how disappointing and disastrous Inter’s European campaign was.” The Serie A giants “never gave the impression of dominating the game,” the Turin-based paper adds.

Il Corriere dello Sport comments “Physical strength is enough in Italy but not in Europe, where ideas and courage are necessary to win. Inter didn’t show any of them.”

Conte shared the lowest rating from Italian media with some of his players such as Romelu Lukaku, Roberto Gagliardini and Ashley Young who were as disappointing on the pitch as Conte was on the bench, according to Italian media.
