Ivan Juric admits Lazio fatigue ‘facilitated’ Hellas Verona’s 2-1 victory, but reveals he was about to substitute a player after 10 minutes.

“We had a good game, worked hard, were concentrated, kept the press up constantly and I feel we could’ve scored a few more goals,” the coach told DAZN.

“I will also concede Lazio looked tired after the Champions League and that facilitated things for us.”

Juric surprised everyone by using creative midfielder Adrien Tameze as a False 9, with Matteo Lovato man-marking Milinkovic.

However, Juric was about to substitute Lovato with Kevin Ruegg after 15 minutes only to change his mind. What happened?

“Lovato was really bad for the first 10 minutes. Incredibly bad. I was talking to him the other day, telling him he had to be humble, as he only really played three full games in Serie A. He needs to be given time to grow and mature.

“He was really bad today, but then after 10 minutes he settled and did much better, he was great for 80 minutes. He has what it takes to become a great defender, but he has to work hard and improve in every way and remain humble.

“I still think we’re not playing as well as we did last season. We improved in some areas, especially with Antonin Barak in the middle, but other elements are only working in fits and starts. We need to be more consistent.”

Juric neutralises the best player of the opposition team.

“We want to be solid, aggressive, play good football, the desire to sacrifice ourselves is what allows that. When we attack, we try to push forward with defenders too and go in numbers.”
