Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini said he doesn’t focus on the Papu Gomez case and revealed Josip Ilicic ‘is still out’ ahead of Juventus on Wednesday.
The big topic at Atalanta in recent weeks has been the falling out between the captain and the coach, but Gasperini didn’t want to spend time on the subject.
“We won in Amsterdam and are drawn Real Madrid,” he said at a press conference. “I don’t think there were any friendly matches.
“Tomorrow we face Juventus. It’s a lot of stuff, but also respect for the other players. You talk as long as you want, I have to think about this stuff.
“It’s the prestige of Real, Juve and then Roma on Sunday. I have my focus there, I have to find the best solution for these matches.”
The coach revealed he’s not sure if Ilicic will make it in time to play against the Old Lady but confirmed Aleksei Miranchuk is back in training.
“Ilicic is still out,” the coach said at a press conference. “Today, Miranchuk can train again for the first time, he was negative.
“Atalanta need a great performance, but they must present themselves with confidence. There’s not a lot of time to prepare for the match. Now, it’s like that for everyone.
“I don’t know if Ilicic can recover, he didn’t train until yesterday. He has problems with his throat.”
The coach was asked if Gomez will be picked for the match against the Bianconeri and responded: “If there are no other types of problems…”
Then he told the journalists that he had nothing more to add on the topic.
“There’s talk of the others, from [Pierluigi] Gollini to [Duvan] Zapata, but also out of respect. For my part, that’s enough. I have the possibility to choose, to let one or the other in.
“I have to think about the team and the best possible formation. Don’t ask me about everything else, enough has already been said.”
Atalanta are eight in Serie A ahead of the match at the Allianz Stadium.
