Inter legend Sandro Mazzola reveals one of his former teammates once fixed a match, intentionally scoring an own goal. ‘We almost beat him to death.’
"The worst sin a footballer can commit is fixing a game,” Mazzola told Libero newspaper.
"It once happened that one of my teammates intentionally scored an own goal. When we went into the locker room and we almost beat him to death,” he continued.
“Unfortunately, it was a common thing at that time as there was much more poverty.”
The 78-year-old spent his entire career with the Nerazzurri, scoring 162 goals in 570 games between 1960 and 1977.
He won eight trohpies with the Serie A giants, including two Champions Leagues and four Serie A titles.
