Italian media believe Massimiliano Irrati’s decisions affected both Milan and Juve with the referee rated 4.5 by Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport and 4 by Tuttosport.

Each one of the three Italian sport papers claim Milan’s first goal should have been disallowed for a Hakan Calanhoglu foul on Adrien Rabiot. VAR referee Daniele Orsato is also blamed because he didn’t suggest the on-pitch referee to have an on-field review to check the potential foul again.

On the other hand, Juventus’ Rodrigo Bentancur should have been sent off in the second half for a foul on Samu Castillejo. The Uruguay international deserved a second yellow card, but this time VAR could not intervene as it can only be used for straight red cards.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Corriere dello Sport, Milan should have been awarded a penalty in the final minutes of play for a foul by Adrien Rabiot on Brahim Diaz.
