Antonio Conte announces he has been ‘working with Christian Eriksen on the playmaker position and expects great things from him’ in the Coppa Italia with Fiorentina.
The Round of 16 tie kicks off on Wednesday at 14.00 GMT.
“It’s for a trophy, so of course it’s a competition that matters to everyone,” Conte told RAI Sport.
“Now we are facing Fiorentina, who will have the same ideas as us on this tournament, as they are a very good side who aren’t performing to their real level so far in Serie A.
“This is a tough obstacle if we want to continue our journey in the Coppa.”
Eriksen had been on the transfer market in January, but it seems the situation has changed, because there is a lack of decent offers.
Instead, Conte is trying to revitalise the Danish midfielder in a new role for his 3-5-2 formation.
“In the career of a player, there are going to be good and less good moments, but you must have the character to break free of the difficulties.
“We’ve had time to work with Eriksen on a tactical level in the position of playmaker, the one currently held by Marcelo Brozovic.
“I expect great things from him in that position.”
