Juventus lifted the first trophy of the season and the Old Lady must thank Wojciech Szczęsny and Cristiano Ronaldo for their 2-0 win against Napoli. Player ratings from the Mapei Stadium:

Juventus

Szczesny 8 – Made two crucial saves on Lozano: showed cat-like reflexes to deny the Mexican in the first half and stuck out a foot to parry from point-blank range during the stoppage time in the second half. MOTM

Cuadrado 7.5 – Recovered from COVID just in time for the fixture, allowing Pirlo to use a classic four-man defence. Much of his work was in the Napoli half and assisted Morata who closed the game.

Bonucci 7 – Solid defensive performance. He was an additional playmaker for the Old Lady.

Chiellini 7 – Played his second game in three days and coped well with the threats of the Napoli attack.

Danilo 6 – Some moments of sloppiness defensively, especially in the first half.

Bentancur 6 – On paper, he was the Juventus’ deep-lying playmaker. Sometimes Arthur would help him set up the attacking action. (Rabiot 84 N/A)

Arthur 6 – Struggled a little bit in the first half, way more consistent in the second.

McKennie 6 – Got through his usual work in the centre of a new-look Juventus midfield. Fouled Mertens inside the Old Lady’s box, but Insigne fluffed the penalty.

Kulusevski 5.5 – A negative first half where he could not find that killer pass, nor dribble past his direct opponent on the right. Slightly better in the second half when Napoli give him more freedom. (Morata 84 7 – Closed the game with the final touch of the match.)

Ronaldo 7.5 –Became the best goal scorer of all time with his 84th Juventus goal. Always in the right place at the right time. Almost unstoppable in big nights.

Chiesa 5 – Not quite at ease on the left, picked up an injury in the first half and was replaced during the break. (Bernardeschi 46 6.5 – Very proactive on the left.)

Coach: Pirlo 7 – Proved Juventus never mess up two games in a row, he can enjoy the first trophy in his coaching career, but is urged to find consistency now.

Napoli

Ospina 6 – Could do nothing to avoid Juventus’ goals. Made a couple of good saves on Ronaldo.

Di Lorenzo 6 – Tenacious in one-on-one situations.

Koulibaly 6 – Perfect first half, when he completely nullified Ronaldo. The Portuguese had the better in the second half.

Manolas 6 – Stunning clearance seconds before Ronaldo’s opener, a little bit shaky after that.

Mario 5.5 – Rui Struggled to cope with Cuadrado. (Politano 85 N/A)

Demme 5.5 – A likeable performance in the first half, but he didn’t keep the same consistency over the 90 minutes. (Llorente 85 N/A)

Bakayoko 5 – Lacked quality and wasn’t as powerful as he usually is. (Elmas 67 6 – Added some quality to the Napoli midfield)

Lozano 6.5 – Had Napoli’s best chances, but should have done more in the second half to create troubles for Danilo.

Zielinski 6 – Quality first half, just like his fellow midfielders he struggled to keep the same consistency in the second half.

Insigne 4 – He will regret that missed penalty kick for long time. Couldn't hold tears after the final whistle.

Petagna 5 – Made his presence be felt, but couldn’t match it with quality passes and had no shots on target. (Mertens 72 6.5 – Earned a penalty kick, nothing more he could do in barely 20 minutes.)

Coach: Gattuso 5 – Could win his second trohy as Napoli coach, but what his side did in the second half was just not enough to take the cup home.
