Week 19 marks the midway point of the campaign, and therefore the team leading the table is crowned Winter Champion.

While at the end of the season, head-to-head record is the primary element to decide positions for teams that are level on points, that is not the case at the halfway stage.

As only one game has been played between them, head-to-head record would be premature.

Instead, at this stage, goal difference will be the element separating clubs in the Serie A table.

If Milan lose to Atalanta and Inter beat Udinese, then goal difference will be used to decide the Winter Champion.

So far, Inter have the superior goal difference with +22, with Milan on +20.

The Winter Champion title used to be considered a great marker of who goes on to take the Scudetto, but in the era of three points for a win, 18 out of 25 Campioni d’Inverno matched that with the final trophy.
