Tension is growing at Roma with multiple reports Edin Dzeko and Lorenzo Pellegrini confronted coach Paulo Fonseca and demanded the return of team manager Gianluca Gomber.

The situation is escalating after the Coppa Italia 4-2 defeat to Spezia in extra time on Tuesday evening.

Not only was that a humiliating loss on the pitch, but they would’ve been eliminated anyway for making six substitutions rather than the five allowed.

Not only was that a humiliating loss on the pitch, but they would’ve been eliminated anyway for making six substitutions rather than the five allowed.

Because of this howler, and the inability to read the rules correctly, Roma dismissed team manager Gomber and Global Sport Officer Manolo Zubiria.

According to multiple sources including the Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport, there was a tense confrontation at the Trigoria training session today.

It’s claimed Dzeko and Pellegrini spoke on behalf of the squad, demanding the return of Gombar.

The players also discussed the recent poor results and tactical problems with coach Fonseca, who is reportedly hanging by a thread.

Roma face Spezia again, this time in Serie A, on Saturday.
