Chelsea have sacked coach Frank Lampard, who succeeded Maurizio Sarri at the Stamford Bridge. How do their stats compare?
Former midfielder and all-time leading goalscorer Lampard was brought in as Sarri’s successor at the Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea haven’t been able to add any silverware during the former player’s reign.
Sarri won the Europa League during his one season at the helm and averaged 0.33 points more than his successor but was in charge of 16 games less.
Lampard was given six more months at the helm than Sarri, who moved to Juventus and won Serie A in 2019-20.
If you compare Lampard’s return in the Premier League to Maurizio Sarri, the Italian coach finished one place higher in the first full season in charge but lost eight out of 38 League games with the Blues.
Lampard’s team lost 12 times last term and have lost six already after 19 games so far this campaign, sitting ninth in the table.
After only 19 games, Sarri’s team were fourth in the table with 40 points, 11 points more than Lampard’s return in his second attempt.
A similar scenario took place at the Allianz Stadium last year, after Sarri had secured Juventus’ ninth consecutive League title.
The exit in the last 16 of the Champions League eventually cost him the job and he was replaced by former midfielder Andrea Pirlo.
