Wesley Hoedt issued an apology to ‘all Lazio fans and my teammates’ after the Coppa Italia elimination against Atalanta. ‘It was my fault.’
This was a poor performance from the former Southampton defender, who went into a clumsy sliding tackle on Duvan Zapata to give away a penalty.
Before then, he had been turned too easily by Luis Muriel for the second Atalanta goal, then was caught in possession for the third scored by Aleksei Miranchuk.
“I apologise to all the Lazio fans and my teammates,” wrote Hoedt on his Instagram Stories.
“It was my fault that we were eliminated today. I can now only work hard, get my head down and prove to you that I am not the player you saw on the pitch today.”
Atalanta won the quarter-final 3-2, despite being a man down for over half-an-hour.
