The director was asked if the 2-0 defeat to Inter at San Siro last month was ‘therapeutic’ considering the run of victories since.

“I don’t know if it was a therapeutic defeat, but we had also won the previous four and won the next run, so it’s very difficult to win 10-12 games in a row,” Paratici told Sky Sport Italia.

“What happened was the coach had more time to get his ideas out in training, to get to know the players better, for them to know him. He didn’t have the time in pre-season, then we had a packed fixture list, so it needed more time.

“Roma are a very good team, they have a strong coach, are getting good results and have transformed their directorial hierarchy. We know it’ll be difficult this evening.”

Edin Dzeko is on the Roma bench today following a row with coach Paulo Fonseca, but he had been close to a Juventus move over the summer, then Inter in January. Is it strange to see the Bosnian dropped?

“Dzeko is a very talented player, but Roma have many talented players. Besides, I already have to focus on my own players, I can’t spend too much time thinking about other team’s players too.”
