Nicola Sansone scored after 55 seconds to give Bologna the lead, but Benevento responded through Nicolas Viola’s brilliant back-heeled flick.
Filippo Inzaghi returned to Bologna to face his successor at the Renato Dall’Ara and Sinisa Mihajlovic got the best start on Friday night.
Bologna scored the opener within 55 seconds, as Musa Barrow skipped past every challenge. It first looked like a brilliant cross to Sansone, but after a second take it might have been a blocked attempt that spun across the target to reach the unmarked winger.
Benevento responded after a mistake from goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski and the ball ended up at the feet of Viola, who brilliantly found a way to the net with a back-heeled finish.
