“There are no certainties at the moment, so I could make changes of tactics or personnel, because we’re trying to buck the trend and finally reach that turning point in our campaign,” said the coach in his press conference.

“Atalanta are a team of great quality, who have made vast improvements under Gian Piero Gasperini in recent years. They attack throughout the game and don’t give you reference points to defend against, so tactics can be fundamental in this game.

“The problem with facing Atalanta is that if you sit back, they never let you see the ball, but if you attack them, they can hurt you on the counter. We’ve got to be wary, but we also owe it to our fans to give it everything for the victory.”

Di Francesco confessed he has chosen who starts between Giovanni Simeone and Leonardo Pavoletti, but won’t say what his decision was.

“We expect more from Radja Nainggolan, and he knows that, but we can’t just depend on him. He’s still physically not quite at his usual level yet.

“We are all struggling, but are really eager to make up for lost time. I truly feel everyone’s support and that gives me great strength. It hurts to see Cagliari in this situation and I want to turn it around.”
