With a place in the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus and the Champions League Round of 16 with Real Madrid coming up, Gasp had a good laugh when asked if he’s going for the Treble.

“We’ve achieved the main targets already this season and it’s hardly accurate when people pretend doing all this and being seventh in Serie A is a disappointment,” said the coach in his press conference.

“It’s hard to think you can play 13 games in a few weeks, all of them at the same level. When we did slip up, it tended to be against a team that hasn’t had anywhere near as many fixtures as we have.

“It’s also not an excuse to suggest we’re already thinking of Real Madrid, because although we rotated the squad, we haven’t underestimated any of our games.

“There seem to be excessive expectations around Atalanta, as if they want us to win the Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Champions League. I mean, if you ask us to win the Treble, we’ll give it a go! But really we’re satisfied with what we are doing.”

Cagliari certainly are not satisfied, as they are in the relegation zone, but still confirmed their faith in coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

“The coach usually gets blamed when things go wrong, but the club evidently evaluated Di Francesco’s capabilities and have faith in him. I think renewing his contract is a great signal.”
