“Genoa tried to take the initiative, but Torino have players of great quality and character. I think we had three clear scoring opportunities today.

“Importantly, Genoa also know how to defend and soak up pressure. It was a very balanced game, but with humility and determination, we managed to cause Torino problems.

“Our ambition is just to play well the next game. Every fixture is tough in Serie A, so our ambition is to do well next Saturday.”

With Milan Badelj suspended, Genoa started Nicolò Rovella, who has already been sold to Juventus.

“Rovella had a very good performance today, he was concentrated, provided quality and quantity. He’s still very young, has a lot to learn, but has clear qualities. Above all, he is an extraordinary lad in terms of his professionalism.

“He’s got his head on his shoulders and that means the only way is up for him. It’s a bonus for Genoa and for whoever will work with him in future.”
