Lazio director Igli Tare refuses to give Torino an inch on today’s match and insists ‘we’re just following the rules’ by effectively taking a 3-0 win.
The game was meant to kick off at 17.30 GMT, but Toro remain in Turin under quarantine until at least midnight tonight, as ordered by the ASL (local health authority).
“I could say many things, but I am keeping them to myself,” Tare told Sky Sport Italia.
“We respected the rules, we came to the stadium, we’ll stay for 45 minutes and then leave it all to the authorities.
“It might’ve been convenient for us too not to play, but the league has to be respected, the situation was decided a long time before this and as far as we are concerned, we’re just following the rules.
“We mustn’t get into the dynamics of what happens afterwards. We just do what we are told by the Lega.”
Does Tare at least understand why it’s entirely impossible for Torino to travel and play this game on schedule?
“I don’t need to understand anything. There might be many points of view, but it’s the authorities that have the power to make those evaluations and decisions.
“I don’t want to create any controversy. We know how things are going and what is being said. The only thing that matters is that we are here. As for the rest, those who will decide can decide.”
Were Lazio asked to play the game tomorrow, seeing as the quarantine expires at midnight tonight?
“No,” was the response.
“Up until last night, we received no information other than we’d be playing the game. We prepared to play the match. We respected the protocol, now we leave it to the authorities and they will make the decisions.”
This is not the same as Napoli’s failed trip to the Juventus Stadium in October, because here the entire squad has been quarantined for a week and it was not a last-minute decision, nor was there any confusion over what the ASL was ordering.
