Cesare Prandelli was left to curse Fiorentina’s luck after a 2-1 home defat to Roma. ‘This is another game we did not deserve to lose.’

Leonardo Spinazzola bizarrely scored both the opening goal and the equaliser, before VAR ruled Amadou Diawara’s late winner was not offside.

“We conceded another goal by a millimetre, this is the third, having seen two goals disallowed by millimetres,” Prandelli told Sky Sport Italia.

“We worked hard, took a strong approach, but clearly you need to be far more alert, determined and concentrated in the final minutes.

“This is another game we did not deserve to lose, but that’s the reality of the situation. We can’t cry over spilt milk. We need to take the positives and try to move on.

“Igor and Gaetano Castrovilli both got injured, Erick Pulgar then asked to come off, so things are piling up a bit. We’re not fortunate. Franck Ribery was injured only a few days ago, so I couldn’t risk anything more.

“I must try to get the best out of my players, put them in the positions that most suit their characteristics, and I don’t necessarily have many alternatives in similar roles.

“Quality is all well and good, it’s necessary, but even more so is hard work. We need more workers all over the pitch.”

There were emotional scenes at the Stadio Franchi, but also all over Serie A, where at the 13th minute today play stopped to remember Davide Astori.

The Fiorentina captain died three years ago tomorrow, suddenly in his sleep from an undiagnosed heart condition.

“It’s impossible not to remember a person who always showed not just his professionalism, but also his abilities as a silent leader.

“I remember once I was in Florence, a car stopped right in front of me and I didn’t know what was going on. He got out and introduced me to his daughter. His eyes were full of joy. His memory lives forever with us.”
