Cagliari coach Leonardo Semplici said ‘our safety depends on us’ after securing a second consecutive win against Bologna on Wednesday.

The former SPAL coach followed up the 2-0 win over Crotone with another clean sheet and three points against Bologna at the Sardegna Arena.

“I liked the lads a lot, I had recommended a change of approach compared to Crotone,” Semplici said at the post-match press conference.

“In the second half we suffered but risked doubling our lead too. Credit must be given to these lads, we are confident.

“It was important to give continuity to the performance and results.”

The Casteddu climbed one position and leapfrogged Torino in the relegation battle, but the Granata have two games in hand.

“Our safety depends on us,” Semplici said. “I have found great availability, these guys are showing me that they are more men than players.

“With these moral qualities and technical abilities, we have the possibility to save ourselves.

“I gave them a couple of principles in the non-possession phase. We haven’t done anything yet, but we are achieving the results.

“There have been two games where we don’t concede and win. The guys are understanding what I want, even if it’s still early.”

Match winner Rugani suffered an injury and couldn’t continue after the break.

“He suffered a blow, and we will evaluate tomorrow with the medical staff.”
