“Let’s just say that we played and they scored the goals. We scored two as well, but they were disallowed, and we hit the post. Unfortunately, football is decided by goals and they did better than us in that particular aspect, but with the performances, we deserved more,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We are in the middle, so we could’ve done better this season, but also worse, especially considering the injuries. We do what we can do.
“I cannot complain today, as the lads took the initiative, created chances and we conceded goals on individual errors, even from players who are quite experienced. That makes me angry.
“If we play like this, we have a good chance of winning in future. I have always said our objective is safety. We have a squad with the quality to beat anyone, when we have the right mentality and focus. When we lack that attitude, we can lose to anyone.
“We are a team that create many chances, but don’t score enough of them. That’s been the case since the start of the season.”
Musa Barrow came off the bench and forced a great save with his free kick, but Mihajlovic was asked if the ex-Atalanta youth product can really become a hitman.
“He has the potential to score 10-20 goals per season. I always said, he’s not a centre-forward, he is a wide forward, but we are working with him to make him become a centre-forward. He’s learning the movements and it is a transition period where we have to wait for him to adapt.
“It’s natural he has ups and downs. All we can do is show him the movements and work with him in training, then it’s up to him to show how much determination he has to step up to the next level. He has the potential, certainly.”
