Multiple reports around Napoli claim Maurizio Sarri is negotiating a possible return to the club, and Jorginho’s agent said the Chelsea midfielder could join him.
The Partenopei are struggling this season under Gennaro Gattuso, having gone out of the Europa League and the Coppa Italia, while still in the race for a top four finish.
Most sources are confident Gattuso will leave at the end of the season, and President Aurelio De Laurentiis has a fascinating plan to roll back the clock.
“The rapport between De Laurentiis and Sarri was absolutely frosty and the President was not happy if someone talked about the coach in front of him,” explained Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli director Valter De Maggio.
“The two have now spoken, there has been a sort of thawing of the relationship between them. De Laurentiis also has two other options, which are Ivan Juric and Vincenzo Italiano.”
There are still quite a few players remaining from the side that Sarri took so close to the Scudetto with exhilarating football that has not been replicated since.
In turn, Sarri struggled to get the players at Chelsea and Juventus to embody his vision in quite the same way, even though he did win the Europa League and the Scudetto.
This revelation is important, because Radio Kiss Kiss is the official radio station of Napoli, so has very close ties to the club.
Also on Radio Kiss Kiss today, Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos commented on reports the Chelsea midfielder and Sarri could both return to Naples.
“Sarri at Napoli with Jorginho is a wonderful idea. The player has two-and-a-half years left on his contract with Chelsea and an important salary.
“It’s possible on a football level, certainly. We’d have to see what De Laurentiis thinks. Naples is a city that Jorginho loves very much, which marked an important part of his career.
“Sarri is also an important coach for him, at which he expressed himself at the highest level.”
RAI Sport reporter Ciro Venerato also told Radio Kiss Kiss that Napoli and De Laurentiis are eager to bring Sarri back and they have communicated on the telephone.
Sarri is still under contract with Juventus and negotiating to terminate by mutual consent by the May 30 deadline, otherwise the Bianconeri will have to pay another €7m.
