Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini believes Cristiano Ronaldo should’ve seen red for catching goalkeeper Alessio Cragno with a boot to the chin before his Juventus hat-trick.

Ronaldo was the undoubted key figure at the Sardegna Arena, scoring three goals in the opening 32 minutes for a final 3-1 result.

However, his game could’ve come to an end after 12 minutes, when the scoreline was still just 1-0.

Ronaldo went in to meet a cross and caught goalkeeper Cragno, leaving him with a cut to the chin that was still bleeding later in the match when facing a penalty.

CR7 was given a yellow card for dangerous play, but many believe it should’ve been a straight red.

“We didn’t put in a good first half, as we lacked ferocity, aggression and heart,” President Giulini told Sky Sport Italia.

“I hope to see a completely different attitude when we play Spezia next week. We didn’t even get a single yellow card and I think that reflects how timid our performance was.

“I am truly disappointed by the way my players approached this, but I am above all upset that Ronaldo was not sent off, as that incident could’ve changed the game.

“It was dangerous play, it put the safety of our goalkeeper at risk and therefore ought to be punished with a red card. This is what the rulebook states.”

This was the first defeat for Cagliari since Leonardo Semplici replaced Eusebio Di Francesco, having earned seven points from three rounds.

“We are more solid, we defend well and are able to counter more. We hadn’t scored in a long time with Di Francesco, whereas again this evening despite it all we were able to find the net.

“However, I hope this performance is just a hiccup, because I didn’t see the same attitude as in recent matches. If we are to stay in Serie A, we need a completely different approach.”
