Montella targets Lazio

Vincenzo Montella knows Catania could secure safety with a win over Lazio and even target Europe, but “let’s not raise the bar too high yet.”

The Elefantini have been one of the revelations of the season and sit in eighth place, though two more points will hit the famous 40 mark that ensures another year in Serie A.

Fans are already looking beyond that to a potential push for Europa League qualification.

“Let’s not make this type of mistake,” warned Montella. “It’s alright to raise the bar a little bit, but let’s not raise it too high yet.

“This game can give us some important answers, although we can only realise what our true worth is at the end of the season.

“It’s a very dangerous match, as Lazio want to make up for their home defeat to Bologna. It would’ve been better to have faced them after their derby win, but we must remain concentrated and not think about the table.”

Montella was asked if this felt like a derby for him, considering his past as both player and Coach of Roma.

“Is it a derby for me? No.”
